Show and Tell Sunday: Aprons

Hello!  It's Show and Tell Sunday again and the theme is vintage aprons.  We LOVE aprons in my house!  My two little girls (ages 2 and 4) have fun trying them on while we craft. Please visit Cindy at her blog for more links to pretty aprons.  Now on with show!

This apron is a "skirt" for my chair in my studio.

These pink aprons are hiding boxes and baskets of "stuff" on a bakers rack in my studio.  I love the embroidered butterflies on the apron to the left.

I call the aprons below the "working" aprons.  The one on the top left has a Rapunzel print on it. You can see a close up pic of it here where I did another post about aprons a while back.

I call these the "frou frou" aprons.  They're so sweet and dainty.  I have a hard time seeing anyone cooking in these!  I love the two pink ones on the left.  My oldest daughter likes the bright pink one on the bottom right. It's a little hard to see, but the dots on the trim are rhinestones. No wonder she likes it :-)

That's it for me!  Hope you enjoyed my little collection of vintage aprons.
Have a blessed Sunday!

Show and Tell Sunday: Vintage Figurines

Show-N-Tell-Sunday-Button 200x200

Well, I've been a bad blogger lately, haven't I?  Thanks goodness Show and Tell Sunday is back! Vintage figurines is the theme and I have a few to show....

This is my favorite! I love the old lace trim.  She's a little trinket box ... her top half comes off.

This cutie is technically a planter with the boot behind it, but still such a sweet face.

This collection of kitties live on a shelf in my daughters bathroom.  My mom and I keep an eye out for black kitties when we go to flea markets.

This sweet angel has a chipped wing but I couldn't pass her up!  May is my youngest daughters birth month.
And finally... a lonely pink, chippy rabbit.

That's it!  I'm not too big on breakable things ... I've still got little ones at home :-)

My blogging break is over and I'm looking forward to regular blogging again!

Have a great Sunday everyone!

Random stuff...

Have you all discovered Facebook yet? Well, let me tell ya, I have and it's so cool!!!  Actually, my sister kindly suggested it to me several times (thanks Gina!) and I'm so glad she did.  It's a neat way to reconnect with relatives, high school and college friends, teachers, even old penpals!  And it's FREE.

I got this e-mail from someone on Facebook that went something like this...

Subject: Long lost pen pal?
Message: Any chance you're Margo Strait? (Strait being my maiden name)
From: Megan Pollastri Maloney

YES!!!! was my reply!  Megan was my pen pal from the 2nd grade!  How crazy is that???!!!  We had somehow managed to kept in touch all through school and even sent each other wedding invitations over 11 yrs ago, but lost touch after that.  We still haven't met each other - she was from Mass. and I'm from Missouri.  BUT - she said her husband goes on business trips to Northwest Arkansas to do business with the company my husband just so happens to work for!!!  So, maybe we'll get to meet each other after all!

I FINALLY bought these two books by one of my most favorite artists and blogger Charlotte Lyons...

I've checked them out of the library MANY times and thought it was high time I get them for myself! Charlotte has another new book out called "Crafted" that she's selling in her etsy shop. They're sold out right now, but she's promised to add more so hopefully I'll get one of those too!

I meant to post this postcard earlier in the month to celebrate my sister and my mom's birthday's on the 11th and 14th, BUT I've been told by many that's it's too weird. But I'm still posting it anyway because tomorrow is MY birthday  :-)  I used to have it in a frame in the guest bathroom ... always got some interesting comments from the guests.  I think my hubby was creeped out the most by it though. Wonder why? On the back of the postcard the "fortune teller" hand wrote this: I have told the future to all the price is $1.00 per - but do not send money until I send you the bill.  Maybe this was considered junk mail back then.

Hope everyone is having a great summer!

Show and Tell Sunday: PAPER!!!

Yea!  Show and Tell Sunday is back and PAPER is the theme!  I have a TON of vintage ephemera, so I'll just show my newest finds from my flea market trip last week plus a few of my very favorites.

New finds:
Pictorial Review magazine from 1925 - it has the most amazing advertisements and pictures.

An old bank account book from the 30's...

Class pictures from the 20's ... look at that perfectly coiffed hair!

Here are some of my favorites:

A sweet little children's book. I think the back side is so cute!

School room decorations...

Old ledgers...the big black one is from a local funeral home (ew!)

Adorable children's coloring book...look at those plump faces!

I don't have the best storage solutions for my paper, it's kinda everywhere. I did buy one of these clear 12x12 paper holders from Wal-Mart for my sheet music, wallpaper and other ephemera.

I also use small wooden boxes for the smaller papers and scraps.

Well, that's it for me! Thanks for hosting again Cerri! Check out all the other paper lovers at her blog here.

Happy Sunday!

Jewels of the Sea Pendant Swap

I got my beautiful pendants in the mail yesterday for the Speckled Egg Jewels of the Sea pendant swap.  Each participant made six pendants (you can see mine here) and Heather at Speckled Egg swapped them out. Look at these gorgeous pendants! I had so much fun opening each one - just like Christmas!

Martha Stewart products in a Wal-Mart near you...

Hurray!  I know... her new craft line is old news, but it's now in a place I frequent at least 3-4 times a week!  Good for Martha and me, bad for my wallet.  I don't scrapbook, but her stuff makes me want to.  Where do you start with all this fun stuff?

I NEED every shade of glitter....

I'm not sure how I left with just these things...

Look at all this crafty fun to be had!  I think the paper flowers will end up in my girls' rooms.

I'm off to finish reading a parenting book - "1-2-3 Magic".  Anyone ever read this? Wish me luck :-)  If I get frustrated I'll just go make some paper flowers.

Swap and an award!!!

Hello all! My goodness, it's been a while! Summer is zipping along here in Arkansas. The first week of summer vacation I was in a panic, worried about what the girls and I would do all summer long to stay busy. Well, that was silly! We're taking it easy... going to the pool, playing with neighbor friends, catching lightning bugs, visiting with family. It's been fun!

So much stuff to write about...here's just a couple of things.

First off - Jewels of the Sea pendant swap hosted by Heather at Speckled Egg. We were to make 6 pendants with a vintage beachy feel and send them in to Heather for her to swap out. Each swapper will get 6 pendants in return. So here's mine:

I've always liked the mystery and romance of a message in a bottle. Wouldn't that be neat to find one? The girl in the image looks like she's waiting for hers to arrive. For the pendants I started with some little corked topped bottles and sprayed them with Krylon frosted glass finish for a vintage look. Inside each is a little scrap of a letter, a freshwater pearl, little sea shell, a bit of sand and some vintage sequins that reminded me of fish scales :-) I used vintage mother of pearl button disk thingies to put the "message in a bottle" type on and another small image of the girl. All images are from the Vintage Workshop, including the little scrap of letter.

Next --- I got an award!! I love blog land! Where else can you give and receive awards for doing something you love? Lord knows I won't be winning a Noble Peace prize any time soon :-) Kathy from Just Being Crafty awarded the Arte y Pico prize to me. Thanks Kathy!!!

Here are the rules:
1. You have to pick 5 blogs that you consider deserving of this award for their creativity, design, interesting material and also contribute to the blogging community, no matter what language.
2. Each award has to have the name of the author and a link to his/her blog to be visited by everyone.
3. Each award winner has to show the award and put the name of and link to the blog that presented her/him with the award.
4. The award winner and one who has given the prize have to show the link of "Arte y Pico" blog so everyone will know the origin of this award.

Okay, now for the hard part because there are sooo many blogs that inspire me. Here are the 5 blogs I've chosen:

1. Sue at My Arts Desire

2. Sarah at Vintage Lily

3. Tammy at Little Junk Shop

4. Beth at Gathering Dust

5. Karla at Karla's Cottage

Thanks again Kathy!
Have a blessed and safe 4th of July!
